SUPERS
2005-2006
New Jersey State Opera
Supernumeraries
Virtually all operas have a need for
non-speaking, non-singing performers on stage. The opera term
for these roles is “Supernumerary” abbreviated as “Super”.
Being on stage, in costume and makeup, as part of a grand opera
performance, is an experience that is difficult to duplicate.
For opera fans everywhere who are unable to sing the principal
roles or sing in the chorus, this is an opportunity to
experience the thrill of actually participating in the
performance of grand opera in a very meaningful way. For those
who are not already opera fans and/or know virtually nothing
about opera, this is also a way to become acquainted with the
glorious and thrilling world of grand opera from the inside.
Becoming a super with the New Jersey State Opera usually
requires a commitment of five weeknights plus the Saturday
before, and the Sunday after that week.
The performances would
be on that Friday evening and that Sunday afternoon in the New
Jersey Performing Arts Center, Newark, NJ.
