The Finals Concert of the
2004 International Vocal Competition was held in the
Robert V. Van Fossan Theater on the grounds of
Bloomfield College, Bloomfield, NJ on Sunday, October
24, 2004 at 3:00 PM.

Finalist – 2003 Vocal Competition

Ms. Perez is a Resident Artist
at the Academy of Vocal Arts in Philadelphia,
Pennsylvania. This season she will be portraying the roles
of Despina in Mozart’s “Cozi fan tutte,” Suzel in a
concert performance at the Kimmel Center in Mascagni’s
“L’Amico Fritz” and Mimi in Puccini’s “La Boheme.” Ms.
Perez made her professional debut with the Palm Beach
Opera Company in 2002 singing the role of Zerlina in
Mozart’s “Don Giovanni” and returned to the company this
past February 2004 to sing the role of Soeur Constance in
Poulenc’s “Dialogues des Carmelites.” She will be
performing at their Gala Concert in February of 2005. Ms.
Perez was awarded a second place prize from the
distinguished Licia Albanese-Puccini Foundation this past
spring and will be performing at their anniversary concert
at Alice Tully Hall, New York this coming November.
Ms. Perez is grateful to those
who contribute to awards and enjoy the achievements of
young artists and provide cultivated opportunities for
their future in the operatic field.

Background of the Competition
Established in 1976 and
directed by Barbara Burke, this competition was
organized to discover and reward young, professional
talent with scholarship awards, contracts, and
encouragement in the pursuit of their careers. Thousands
of singers from all over the world have participated in
this program, and many are enjoying international
careers in major opera houses around the world.
Our distinguished panel of
judges has included Madame Licia Albanese, Madame Anna
Moffo, Jerome Hines, Bidu Sayao, Rose Bampton, Lorenzo
Alvary, Tony Russo, Steven DeMaio, George Shirley, Stella
Roman, Maestro Alfredo Silipigni and many other operatic
luminaries. Agents from opera management have always
served on the judging panel as well as representatives
from the music department of State Universities, the
Julliard School of Music and the Manhattan School of
Music, both in New York City, and The Curtis Institute of
Music and the Academy of Vocal Arts in Philadelphia.
Auditions are heard in several
locations around New Jersey, New York City and in
Philadelphia. A Finals Concert, to which the public is
invited, is held at the end of the competition.
